Case Studies
SERVICE...Renaissance Hotels
We were challenged to establish a service award program that would
recognize Renaissance employees marking 1 year through 50 years of service.
The
product had
to appropriately accommodate stone sequencing to reflect each year level.
First, we created artwork and ideas for our distributor and their customer's
review. With their direction, we produced samples for further review and final
approval.
The end result is a very successful, ongoing program which also led to the creation of the Renaissance pineapple hospitality emblem.
This pin is given to VIP guests at Renaissance Hotel locations to wear during their stay. This pin identifies these VIP's to the staff of the hotel so they can offer additional service. In this case, one successful jewelry application led to another!
SAFETY...Frito Lay
Frito Lay wanted a way to reward over-the-road drivers who had achieved the
1 million safe miles milestone, as well as any who had advanced to the 3
million safe miles mark and were not yet recognized. We designed a ring that
could depict the 1, 2 or 3 million-mile levels, as well as incorporate a
personalization element; the recipients raised initials on the side.
The end result—the recipients truly loved their rings, and "safe miles" driving was appropriately recognized. This success was followed by additional jewelry opportunities for our distributor at Frito Lay.
PROMOTION...Michael Jordan Cologne

The challenge was to create an inexpensive yet sophisticated product for an on-pack promotion launching the new Michael Jordan Cologne.
First, we created artwork showing how their vibrant logo and colors could be transformed through an inexpensive application process (screen-printing with a clear epoxy dome) and featured on the product. We then produced samples for approval by their promotion group.
The end result was a very successful promotional program, effecting significant sell-through at the retail level.
ANNIVERSARY...Ohio Farmers Insurance

A distributor brought us a challenge—his customer was looking for a unique, upscale gift to recognize the 150th anniversary of their service business. Several product ideas were discussed. We started with basic line art of their logo, focusing on designing a unique key ring. We transformed that reference into a 2-sided key tag with modeled detail and a personalization feature—the company logo on the front side and a "registration" area on the backside.
Finally, we worked with sources to design a genuine walnut jewelry box in which to place the key tag, and registration card. This presentation far surpassed the customer's expectations, resulting in a truly memorable commemorative anniversary presentation.

Creative Memories and our distributor had two clear requirements. First, production of a superior quality piece, as they were experiencing quality problems with the vendor of record. Second, to take the opportunity to redesign their career path program.
We started with design options for their review. Creative Memories selected the design they felt best suited their requirements. We then reviewed quality expectations, and engineered guidelines for manufacturing to the highest quality standard. The process resulted in Creative Memories' satisfaction with that one piece—and they have awarded us many opportunities since. We are now the vendor of choice for all their anniversary pins, via a distributor that brought them a superior supplier—for design and production.
LINE EXTENSION...First Tennessee Bank
In this case, the customer wanted a simple, elegant way to recognize their
staff without creating a "class system" perception. However, they
did need a way to designate between year levels without being too obvious. We
proposed a Cross® pen for all recipients. Then, we recommended utilizing a
gold-filled crest set with stones to accomplish the "year"
designation. The end result is that this marriage of a Cross® pen with Dion's
jeweled emblem serves as a perfect award, which was very well received by our
distributor's customer and all recipients.
The employees received their gift-boxed pen-with-emblem along with a celebration kit, containing balloons, confetti and streamers, for decorating their workspaces. Overall, a great example of a creative product solution affecting the company atmosphere in a very positive way!
INCENTIVE...IGA Supermarkets

A leading national supplier to IGA supermarkets wanted to see more of their product flying off IGA's shelves.
We developed a program based on incentives for store decision-makers, and featured sterling silver rings with genuine diamonds and a 14 karat white gold pendant and neck chain with a garnet gemstone and a precious metal emblem featuring the 75th anniversary of IGA.
The end result—with 4400 supermarkets in 48 states and 43 countries, sales of more than $21 billion annually, and management now "incentivized," it didn't take long for the recognition program to become a huge success!

PERFORMANCE...DaimlerChrysler Corporation

DaimlerChrysler wanted to create an incentive and awards program to motivate and recognize their dealers, service managers, parts managers, and technicians.
The program, called "FFV" (Fixed First Visit), was developed with the assistance of a key Dion distributor and focuses on achieving customer satisfaction by "getting it right the first time." Seeking ideas other than the often and overly-used cash, gift certificates, electronics, etc., the unique performance awards suggested (some shown above) were a refreshing alternative to "the usual."
Each time these jewelry awards are worn by the recipient or a loved one, recipients recall the great job they did and how much their company appreciates their work. We call this experience "multiple moments of recognition." Company statistics show a definite improvement in customer satisfaction since the program's implementation!

EXCELLENCE...Circuit City

National electronics retailer Circuit City sought to reward their top performers by naming them to their new "President's Club." But what do you give honorees to show how much they are appreciated and to recognize outstanding performance?
A Dion distributor, with our assistance, had the answer: Design and create "Sales Excellence" recognition rings made in 10 karat yellow gold and 10 karat white gold. Just ask any champion in the world of sports and he or she will tell you—a ring is the twenty-first century's most sought after "symbol of success."
Since the introduction of this concept, how has the chain been doing? Circuit City's stock has shown an overall increase for 2003. "Sales Excellence" and customer satisfaction have a way of doing that for you!

Hendrick Motorsports, a leading NASCAR team featuring renowned drivers such as Jeff Gordon and Terry Labonte, sought an achievement award that was truly a "symbol of success" when their 400 employees received them and wore them.
We know the answer to that challenge! "The ring's the thing." In collaboration with Mr. Hendrick and a Dion distributor, we designed a solid 10 karat gold achievement ring that celebrates the Hendrick team reaching the magical 100 Victory mark.
So how's the team doing since they received their rings? All of their drivers (Gordon, Labonte, Joe Nemechek, Jimmie Johnson, Brian Vickers, and Kyle Busch) had at least one victory in 2003. Johnson, Gordon, and Labonte finished in the NASCAR Winston Cup Top 10 (with Labonte just edging out teammate Kyle Busch). Brian Vickers was crowned NASCAR Busch Series Champion and named Sporting News' 2003 NASCAR Busch Series "Driver of the Year."

SONIC Drive-in Restaurants wanted to celebrate their 50th anniversary with products that could be given to employees and also be made available for purchase on their official website. And they needed them fast!
With cars pulling in and out of their 2600 restaurants all day, the decision was made that key tags were a "perfect fit" for the drive-in restaurant that still employs car hops.
We were able to make them here at Dion, and in short time! When SONIC saw the results (the products and the turnaround time), they placed an additional order for their 50th anniversary pins. Employees proudly used their key chains and wore their pins.

Nu Skin... The Beauty of Innovation
We've designed and produced an
exciting, new "recognition jewelry solution" made exclusively for Nu
Skin—the Nu Skin "Team Elite" add-a-diamond pin.
In the past, Nu Skin needed a new pin designed and tooled every year. After considering this and all the other factors involved, the Dion solution was to create an attractive "continuity award" that could be updated in the field (no longer requiring a new pin each year). Additionally, when someone wore the pin, others would know exactly where that person stood with regard to his or her experience and success with the company.
The pin is awarded to Nu Skin Executives who have successfully helped Circle Group Distributors to become first generation breakaway Executives.
"The advantages of this attractive new pin," says Dion vice president and account manager Dana Higginbotham, "are that the diamonds can be added in the field and that Executives are committed to the effort because they want to be sure that their new 10K solid gold pin gets filled with many precious, genuine diamonds!"
When Outback
Steakhouse, Inc., was looking for a creative design solution for an attendee
gift at their Annual Partners Conference, they turned to Dion distributor Paul
Dyer of Redco International.
The challenge was to create a gift that could be given to attendees coming from the seven different restaurant brands that operate under the Outback umbrella. The parameters were, "No Rules. Just Right.®"
Rather than design it to include a popular theme about the destination city, key Outback officials— in conjunction with Paul, his Dion account manager and our design department—decided on a solid sterling silver charm bracelet featuring a sterling charm displaying each of the logos of the seven different restaurant brands, each contained within a custom shape.
Each charm is engraved on the back with the location and date of the conference.
"The design," explains Design Director Paul Eddy, "will allow for future use of the bracelet while simply creating new charms. And the charm tooling can be duplicated and altered in order to produce pins, pendants, emblems, etc., for other award purposes. The 'future use' idea saves Outback considerable money in that only limited new tooling may be needed in the near future."
Charms shown here, along with Outback, are Roy's (an upscale restaurant featuring Hawaiian cuisine; named after chef Roy Yamaguchi), Carrabba's Italian Grill, and Bonefish Grill—one of Tampa Bay's finest.

Mary Kay "Star Director Program" Rewards Top Performers

When Mary Kay Inc. was searching for a way to motivate its top Directors, they found their "Recognition Solution" through their Dion distributor. Their program runs for sixteen calendar quarters and starts with a fashionable goldplated "star" bracelet. If, as a Mary Kay Director, you have five or more consultants reaching Star Consultant Status (ordering "x" number of dollars in product in a quarter), you receive a sapphire star insert that can be easily applied to your bracelet by the Director. If ten or more consultants reach Star Status, a ruby insert occurs. If fifteen or more is accomplished, a diamond insert. And if twenty or more, an emerald insert. The program has been a shining success as Directors seek to fill their bracelets with sparkling gemstones! This is one of several recognition solutions provided by Dion distributors to their valued customers. What recognition solutions' opportunities might you have to address for your customers?
